Our Curriculum

Spa Academy - GardeningSpa Academy's Curriculum

At Spa Academy  September 2014 National Curriculum for Key Stage 2Askern, our curriculum is based on and enhances the September 2014 National Curriculum for Key Stage 2.

We aim to ensure that our pupils are creative, honest, perseverant, respectful, and responsible team players that are equipped with the knowledge, skills and character to succeed.

Everything we do is centred on the belief that ‘better never stops’, so at Spa Academy we aim to use our curriculum to develop pupils that:

•  show creativity in their desire to achieve beyond expectations;

•  recognise that the path to success requires perseverance and teamwork;

•  demonstrate honesty and integrity;

•  take responsibility for their future;

•  respect our learning community, environment and wider society.

Our curriculum is mapped out through well-constructed long-term plans, which package the curriculum into a clear sequence of Interactive Learning Projects (ILPs). These ILPs are used to bring the curriculum alive with key knowledge and skills set within a wealth of different contexts. We use as our platform for these ILPs, the Cornerstones Education Limited curriculum, which we believe to be a perfect fit for our school, providing as it does a coherent skills and knowledge-based primary curriculum with a creative edge, which Spa children crave.

The Cornerstones Curriculum is rooted in the principle that every child deserves a rich, fun, engaging and broad learning experience, and as such, it aims to nurture engagement, curiosity and innovation, bringing learning to life in meaningful ways.

Each Year Group study 4 ILPs over the course of an academic year, ensuring rigorous coverage of subjects. Each ILP has an overarching theme linked to a national curriculum subject. In addition to the main subject focus, each ILP also makes meaningful links across a range of subjects and covers multiple aspects of the national curriculum.
